Transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with severe aortic stenosis and small aortic annulus.
OBJECTIVES Valve hemodynamics and clinical outcomes among patients with a small aortic annulus who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) were examined. BACKGROUND The presence of a small aortic annulus may complicate the surgical management of patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). TAVI is an alternative to aortic valve replacement (AVR) in high-risk patients, but few d...
متن کاملTranscatheter aortic valve implantation in Jehovah's Witness patients with symptomatic severe aortic valve stenosis.
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is currently reserved for high or prohibitive surgical-risk patients with aortic valve stenosis. We report on successful TAVI in two Jehovah's witness patients. It offers a simple and effective treatment of severe aortic valve stenosis in high-risk patients who refuse the use of allogeneic blood and blood products.
متن کاملTranscatheter aortic valve implantation for patients with severe bicuspid aortic valve stenosis.
BACKGROUND Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is regarded as a relative contraindication to transcatheter aortic valve implantation attributable to the risk of uneven expansion of the bioprosthesis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with BAV. METHODS AND RESULTS Of 470 patients included in our prospective transcat...
متن کاملTranscatheter aortic-valve implantation for aortic stenosis.
BACKGROUND Short-term results are presented from our first year of experience with transcatheter aortic-valve implantation [corrected] (TAVI) at the University Hospital of North Norway. MATERIALS AND METHODS TAVI was used to treat 25 patients with aortic stenosis [corrected] from September 2008 to August 2009. 25 patients operated with conventional aortic valve replacement (AVR) served as con...
متن کاملValidation of the Valve Academic Research Consortium Bleeding Definition in Patients With Severe Aortic Stenosis Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.
BACKGROUND The Valve Academic Research Consortium (VARC) has proposed a standardized definition of bleeding in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve interventions (TAVI). The VARC bleeding definition has not been validated or compared to other established bleeding definitions so far. Thus, we aimed to investigate the impact of bleeding and compare the predictivity of VARC bleeding even...
